- This is a small guide to what Sony has released as AD-Hoc Party. AD-Hoc Party is essentially using your PS3 as a routing buffer for your PSP's AD-Hoc abilities to play with other people who are using AD-Hoc Party who are not close to you. In simplified English: "Connects your PSP across the internet."
AD-Hoc Party, IMO, is much easier that setting up xLink Kai. I could say that it's a free program, but the fact that you bought a PS3 might prove otherwise. The setup is fairly simple, and playing with other players doesn't take more than 10 minutes.
If you have a PS3 with wi-fi capabilities, you have access to this program, with a bit of tweaking. AD-Hoc Party is still currently in Beta Trials, which means its in Japan only. This doesn't mean that you have to pack up your PS3, fly to Japan, and connect there, it just means you need access to the Japanese PlayStation Store. To access this, you would need a Japanese Account. There is a great YouTube guide here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Kfm0gCTX0
You may need to have your computer near your PS3, or you can pause it after a while to catch up, but sooner or later, you will get a Japanese PSN Account and have access to the Japanese PlayStation Store. As of now, the AD-Hoc Party download is located on the second to the bottom option, the one with Japanese Characters and little diamonds on either sides. Make sure to download the AD-Hoc Party itself, not the little preview video. If you aren't sure, just download both of them, both files are not extremely large anyways. Once you download the files, you can return to your normal PSN.
After you get the downloaded file, return to your normal PSN (or not, up to you), install AD-Hoc Party, which is located in the Game section. Once installed, start it up, which then you will most likely need to update it. The update won't take too long, and soon after, it will start up again.
******Important: You MUST be connected to the internet VIA Wired connection to use AD-Hoc Party.******
Now that you successfully have AD-Hoc Party on your PS3, grab your PSP. Turn it on, start up Monster Hunter, and place your character inside the Online Gathering Hall. On your PS3, the AD-Hoc Party main page, select the third option.(Note that now X and O are switched, making O the accept button and X the cancel button.) After selecting the third option, your PS3 should show the name of your PSP on your TV screen. This is to say that AD-Hoc Party sees your PSP and recognizes it is searching for other AD-Hoc signals. (Note: You will not have to do this every time you go into AD-Hoc Party.) After it displays your PSP name, close off that window and select the first option on the main menu. This will place you inside of the "AD-Hoc World Lobby".
***Note: Most English speaking players are in World J Lobby 50, and most play MHF2, though this does not mean no one plays MHP2G there either.***
Find the world you want to enter, and each world basically looks like a circular mouth with a lot of teeth. Each "tooth" represents a lobby in that world. Point your analog stick toward the lobby you want to go to, press O, and the three lobbies you selected will show up on your screen. Select the lobby you want to enter and press O. You will then enter the "Lobby Screen".
This screen is almost entirely green, with the exception of a few small white characters and perhaps a little house or two. While in this screen, moving your left analog stick will make your "Selection Circle" appear. This will be like your PS3 Mouse pointer in a way.
If you press triangle on this screen, a mini menu will appear. This menu contains four options. They are as follows:
Leave Lobby - Yes|No Open Chat Log (Note: Pressing R2 will increase text size and L2 will make it smaller)
The third and fourth option, I am unsure of. They seem to deal with other lobbies, though I have not found in what way they work. If someone finds this out, please leave me the details and I will add it to the guide.
If you select another character, a mini-menu will pop up with three options. The options are as follows:
Move close to Whisper Message: PSN Friend Request
If you select a room, a mini-menu will pop up with two options. They are as follows:
Move to: Go in
If you select the floor, a mini-menu will pop up with two options. The top option will move your character to that spot. The bottom option will open up another menu to create a room. When you select the second option, it reads as follows:
Room Name: Room Description: Room Password:
Create
After hitting create, your little character will pull up a house and enter it. If you do this, you will be the "Host". If you host a room, please note that the stability of the room will count on your internet. If you have poor internet or just don't feel confident with it, it is probably best to join another room unless there are none available or no one is playing the game that you are. If you host the room, you will have a Triangle menu to help you navigate and control it. On the room screen, press Triangle and the options are as follows:
Leave Room - Yes|No Change Room Description Close|Open Room to others Kick Player
There is also a "Select" menu while in a room. You do not need to be a host to access this menu. Simply press the select button when you are in a room, and a menu will appear to the left. The options are as follows:
Change Sound Effects: Off Sound Set 1 Sound Set 2 Sound Set 3 (These are just the sounds AHP will make when you press buttons and such. Find one that you like or turn if off if you don't like it.)
PSP Channel Settings: Automatic Channel 1 Channel 6 Channel 11 (These are channel settings, most people use Automatic, but you can change which channel you want your PS3 to pick-up and transmit for smoother gaming. **Recommended: Leave on Automatic**)
Mic Muting: Mic's Off Mic's On (This will turn off other people's sound as well as your own. This doesn't include the little sounds you can make with the D-Pad of your PS3 controller.)
If you have a mic or Blue tooth headset, you can use it in this room, and anyone else in the room will hear what ever you say, so be nice. There is no "Push to Talk" button. If it is connected, anything the device hears will play for all in the room to hear.
If you have a USB keyboard, you can also connect it here. Press enter then type your message and then enter again.
If your TV is small and you are having a hard time reading what's in the text box, tap R2 on your PS3 Controller and the font will enlarge up to two times.
These are the basics of AD-Hoc Party that have been found out thus far. If you find that I am missing something, feel free to leave me a message or a PM and I will fix it post-haste. I hope this helps you out and hope to see you on. thats the guide, looks like its possible to go online now | |
